Is shattering sunroof a thing?

I remember reading a while back about someone's CX 5 sunroof suddenly exploding while they were driving, sounding like a gunshot, followed by a loud rush of air, at the time it conveniently seemed like a freak incident, but now I'm not so sure coz about 2 days ago I just saw another post describing the exact same thing....sunroof was closed, weather was normal, and out of nowhere it just shattered, totally baffling
What causes these things and has this happened to anyone else here? and is it something that can be prevented?

Tempered glass can randomly fail from stress or tiny flaws, especially with temp shifts or pressure changes, it happened to a buddy's CX-5 too

Wait, I know plenty of people with sunroofs that never mentioned anything like that, but none of them has a mazda. This raises the question: is a common Mazda problem or just some weird coincidence?
