Cold start problems

I wasn't sure where to post this since I couldn't find the exact forum topic that fits. Anyway, took my 2023 CX-50 up to the mountains in Washington, and twice it wouldn't start after sitting in the cold. First time, brake wouldn't budge. Second time, brake worked but still no start. Had to hold the key near the button before it finally fired up. What gives?

It could it be a weak battery or an issue with the key fob's signal in cold conditions? What's your usual starting routine in cold weather?
That's a great question. My starting routine is pretty much the same hot or cold I just hop in and hit the button. I was thinking about the key fob battery too since holding it to the start button is the get out of jail free card for a dead fob. The main car battery seems to be in good shape since all the lights and accessories were working just fine when it wouldn't start.
