Jumpstarting a mazda CX 50 2020

You know, my dad's got a 2020 mazda CX 50 2020, and he's one of those old school guys who's a bit stumped about jumpstarting these newer cars.

He's read the manual, which says he shouldn't be messing with the battery. But he's thinking, what if he's stuck somewhere and can't reach a dealer or get help? Can he actually jumpstart it himself?

I totally understand where your dad is coming from. Newer cars can really complicate things with all those electronics involved.
But don't worry, you can still jump it like we used to. Just have to be a bit more cautious. It's best to look for the designated jump points under the hood instead of going straight to the battery terminals. You usually can find those marked in the engine bay.
Has he had a chance to check them out on his CX-50 yet?

What exactly in the manual made him hesitant, was it a warning about battery location, electronics risk, or something else that made jumpstarting seem unsafe?

Yeah, newer cars are computers on wheels, but i think those warnings are mainly because people aren't paying attention or try to do things they don't know how. There was a saying that in the olden days manuals explain how to check for valve clearance and now they tell you not to drink some fluid from the car.

Anyways, jump starting a new car is as simple as any other.

Red to dead
Red to donor
Black to donor
Black to bare metal on the car with the dead battery

Once the car is started and everything is good, reverse the order to unplug the cables and you're golden.
